I shot and edited this short documentary for my Mobile Journalism class as part of my Master's in Digital Journalism at Goldsmiths University. The aim of the module is to show that broadcast quality journalistic pieces can be created with minimal equipment – i.e. using just a smartphone.
About the documentary:
An interview with Katie Hainbach, mother to Leia, one of only 50 children in the world to suffer from Combined Oxidative Phosphorylation Deficiency 11 (COXPD11), a severe multisystemic autosomal recessive disorder characterised by neonatal hypotonia and lactic acidosis.
Shot during a time of restrictive COVID measures, I was only able to personally shoot the interview footage of Katie in her garden in accordance with social distancing rules. The rest of the footage of Leia was kindly provided by Katie. The interview footage was shot using a Google Pixel 3A and edited using Adobe Premiere Pro.
